Github core features free for everyone

GitHub has announced that all of its core features are now free for everyone, and it includes those too who are using free GitHub accounts. This means anyone can create free unlimited private repositories with unlimited collaborators.

Organizations had to opt for paid plans if they wanted to use GitHub for private development. However, now, GitHub is trying to shift from the pay-for-privacy model to pay-for-features. So unless you need some advanced features, there’s no need to pay for anything.

Hence, teams that use GitHub for commercial projects will get up to 2,000 minutes per month of free access to GitHub Actions — the company’s automation and CI/CD platform.

GitHub is now offering advanced features such as code owners, enterprise features (like SAML) or personalized support at a reduced price. And, it’s not a small discount — both the GitHub Team and GitHub Pro plan has been slashed from $9 to only $4 per user per month. These changes have been placed in effect starting today, and the existing customers will now be charged less automatically.
