How to activate Two-Factor authentication on Facebook without a phone number

Two-factor authentication (2FA) on Facebook adds another layer of security to your account. Facebook lets you use 2FA without adding a phone number as well.

So if you’re hesitant about giving Facebook your mobile number, here is how you can enable two-factor authentication on Facebook without a phone number.

Activate 2FA On Facebook Without Phone Number

You can enable two-factor authentication on Facebook without a phone number in a few easy steps from your Android/iOS device or your desktop as well. You’ll need Google Authenticator or Duo Authenticator to do so. I’d recommend Google Authenticator since it’s easier to use and has a better interface.

How to enable two-factor authentication on Facebook Without a phone number
  • Open the Facebook app and click on the hamburger menu (☰) on the top right side
  • Scroll down and select Settings and Privacy > Settings
  • Tap on Security and Login > Use Two-Factor Authentication

From the next page, you can choose how you want to receive verification codes from Facebook. To enable two-factor authentication on Facebook without a phone number, select Authentication app, and tap on Continue.

If you’re using your phone to set up two-factor authentication, click on Set up on same device. You’ll be redirected to the Google Authenticator app. The app will ask you to save the key for your account. Click on Yes and you’ve successfully enabled two-factor authentication on Facebook without a phone number.

Why use two-factor authentication?

Facebook 2FA, like the name suggests, asks you to enter a secondary code, aside from your password each time you log into your Facebook account. This code is a one-time pin which means if anyone else has your password and tries to log into your account, they would need a code too that will be sent to your phone.

When enabled, two-factor authentication tells you if someone is trying to log into your Facebook account, and lets you secure it immediately. Generally, you’d receive an OTP on your phone number, but 2FA can be enabled on Facebook without adding your phone number.
