List of all the Major Reported PS5 And Xbox Series X Launch Issues

PS5 Xbox Series X issues

PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, finally launched earlier this month. However, along with new features, the consoles also came bundled with quite a few launch day bugs.

As is the case with most of the newly released devices, there were some issues reported by both PS5 and Xbox Series X users during the first week after launch. While some issues seem mildly annoying, certain others are game-breaking.

PS5 Xbox Series X issues

For those of you who missed out, Sony’s PS5 was released on November 12, 2020, in countries such as the U. S., Canada, and Japan. On the other hand, Xbox Series X arrived two days before its rival on November 10 for all markets worldwide. Let’s take a look at the launch day issues users have come across since then.

PS5 Launch Day Issues

Rest Mode System Crash

Unfortunately, the most common problem PS5 users encountered on the console during its first week is also a game-breaking problem. Multiple players have reported that putting the console on Rest Mode causes the system to crash and start a repair process on the next boot.

In more serious cases, the crash prevented the PS5 from booting up again at all, essentially “bricking” the console. Interestingly enough, this crash is more likely to occur while Spider-Man Remastered is running in the background.

Data Transfer Issue

According to Tom’s Guide, legacy PlayStation users trying to transfer their PS4 data to PS5 are facing issues. After the transfer process is underway for a while, it becomes or, at least, appears to be unresponsive. Those who shut off the system to overcome this have reported accidentally bricking their console.

Moreover, carrying out the data transfer via an external HDD is also flawed as it causes data corruption, the same source states. In short, it is best to postpone transferring your files to your new console until Sony release a patch to fix the problem.

“Queued for Download” Bug

If you are one of those users who purchase digital copies of games, pay attention to this one. GameRant reports that attempting to download a full game causes players to face a bug where the download process goes on indefinitely.

To make matters worse, you can’t cancel or restart the download when this problem occurs. The only known way out of this, yet, is doing a “factory reset,” which erases all your PS5 storage data.

Xbox Series X Launch Day Issues

Random Shutdown During Game

Many Xbox Series X users are experiencing a random shutdown while gaming on the console. Notably, the power-off mostly occurs when loading up a random game such as COD Black Ops: Cold War and Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla.

Till now, there is no word on what is actually causing this issue. But hopefully, it is a software issue rather than a hardware one that can be resolved with a subsequent patch.

Watch Dogs Legion Auto-save Feature Not Working

According to a post on Ubisoft Forums, several Xbox Series X/S players are unable to use the auto-save feature in Watch Dogs Legion. The players also report losing hours of in-game progress because of this bug.

Hopefully, this game-breaking issue will soon receive a patch fix, but until that happens, playing the latest Watch Dogs is literally a waste of time.

Xbox Series X Controller Pairing Issue

Users have confirmed facing difficulties re-connecting the new Xbox controller after it disconnects on its own. The pair button, too, doesn’t seem to work after the random disconnection.

The only way around this, right now, is using the bundled USB Type-C cable to connect the controller to the console and wait for about 5 seconds before unplugging it. Another temporary fix is restarting the console when this issue occurs.
