The Nord is quite identical to the company’s previous take on mid-range phones, the OnePlus 8. It the OnePlus’s latest mid-range smartphone in the new Nord series in the first online AR launch event.

OnePlus Nord is available in Blue Marble and Gray Onyx colors option, and it starts at just £379 ($480). Nevertheless, the phone is quite impressive, after all, OnePlus has been making flashy-expensive phones for a while now.

If you have been wanting the OnePlus 8 but in mid-range body, then the Nord will gladly fill in that space. Although, the specifications are somewhat cut-down to fulfill that ambition. OnePlus mentioned that the two phones are targeting different markets.

OnePlus Nord

When compared to its counterpart within the OnePlus itself, the Nord comes with a less powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G 7nm EUV Mobile Platform, but with 2.4GHz, 2.2GHz, and 6x 1.8GHz Kryo 475 CPU. And with X52 5G modem that supports both NSA and SA 5G.

OnePlus provided the Nord with fewer specs than the OnePlus 8. We have still got the 1080p OLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate but with a smaller 6.44-inch Full HD+ 408 PPI 20:9 Fluid display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection and no curved screen.

The 90Hz refresh rate in a mid-range phone is kinda cool. Even the Galaxy Tab S6 still uses the normal 60GHz refresh rate that is found in most phones out there. The 90Ghz makes the Nord screen feel smooth.

if you are expecting wireless charging and an IP rating with the Nord, then might have to skip these two, including the 8 and jump over to the company’s major flagship phone, the OnePlus 8 Pro.

The OnePlus 8 feels worthy of its specs, and more solid premium than the Nord, that is what is expected, but the OnePlus 8 PRO is the company’s major flagship. The Nord still has the alert slider, and glass back panel design.

Around the back, OnePlus Nord comes with a QUAD camera setup, there is the Sony IMX586 sensor 48-megapixels rear camera with 0.8μm pixel size, f/1.75, and support OIS + EIS Hybrid stabilization, accompanied by the 8-megapixels 119° ultra-wide camera with f/2.25 aperture.

Others include the 5-megapixels depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture and 2-megapixels macro camera with f/2.4 aperture. The phone back camera supports 4K video at 30fps, 1080p slow motion at 240fps.

With the four rear cameras, the Nord comes with a one more camera lens than the OnePlus 8, it is the depth sensor. But the 8 picture quality will be different from the Nord, as the processor plays a big role in handling phone’s picture quality, the Nord’s Snapdragon 765G processor will not have enough impact on the cameras.

Inside the hole-punch of the phone is a dual front-facing camera lens, which includes the Sony’s IMX616 32-megapixels sensor with f/2.45 aperture, EIS, and another 8-megapixels 105° ultra-wide camera with f/2.45 aperture.

The Nord runs on OxygenOS 10.5 based on Android 10, in-display fingerprint sensor, and it supports the following connectivity: Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.1 with AptX, AptX HD, LDAC, and AAC, Sub-6GHz 5G, LTE.

OnePlus mentioned that bigger display is not just important for good user experience, allowing users to feel comfortable and contented with content consumption, but it’s also important for battery life.

To ground it all, instead of the OnePlus 8’s 4300mAh battery, the company used a 4115mAh battery capacity on the Nord but still comes with the Warp Charge 30T Fast Charging (5V/6A). You can charge the phone from 0% to 70% in just 22mins.

Price of the OnePlus Nord

OnePlus Nord comes in orderly variants, there is the Rs. 24,999 ($335) 6GB RAM with 64GB storage, 8GB RAM with 128GB storage costs Rs. 27,999 ($375).

While the top-end 12GB RAM with 256GB storage goes for Rs. 29,999 ($400). The phones will be available starting from August 4th, via the OnePlus official website.
