Xiaomi unveiled a Redmi K30 variant with the newly launched Snapdragon 768G. Qualcomm, on May 11, 2020 announced a successor to the Snapdragon 765G processor in the form of Snapdragon 768G 5G.
The new SoC promises to offer a 15% faster GPU and a 20% increase in CPU performance over the Snapdragon 765G, thanks to overclocking.
Snapdragon 768G vs 765G
Qualcomm claims it managed to overclock the previous chip by over 15%. The CPU is now clocked at 2.8Ghz, while the GPU is at 725 MHz as opposed to 2.4Ghz and 625 MHz clock limits of the 765G.
Other than this, there is roughly no difference between the two chips. Snapdragon 768G and 765G, both have the same 5G integrated modems with support for mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G. Also, both support standalone and non-standalone 5G networks.
The only key difference is in the graphics region, where the new chip is expected to do better, especially when it comes to games.
Additionally, the latest Snapdragon SoC also comes with Snapdragon Elite Gaming features, and also supports updateable Adreno GPU drivers.
According to Snapdragon, the 768G 5G SoC will offer improved gaming performance and camera capabilities.
Redmi K30 5G Racing Edition is the first Snapdragon 768G-bearer. The Xiaomi phone is no different from Redmi K30 5G, other than the improved chip and a new mint green color. The Redmi K30 variant is priced at $282 for the 6GB version and will be on sale in China starting May 14th.
More smartphones will likely adopt the new chip to remain in the competition. It would be interesting to see how Google Pixel 5 will adapt to the situation, given it is rumored the phone will have Snapdragon 675G.
