Redmi Note 8 Pro’s camera got unimpressive score – DxOMark

Redmi Note 8 Pro DxOMark scorecard

The Redmi Note 8 Pro packs impressive hardware at a highly competitive price-point. Looking at the cameras in particular, the Note 8 Pro headlines the affordable category with a 64MP main shooter alongside an 8MP ultrawide module and two 2MP snappers for macro photography and depth data. Despite the solid setup, the Note 8 Pro managed an unimpressive score of 84 on the DxOMark test which is exactly the same as the Black Shark 2 and LG V30.

Breaking down the score, the latest member in the Redmi Note series managed 87 in the photo department and 78 in the video category. The main camera’s autofocus performance was praised along with its exposure and subject isolation in portrait shots. However shots were found lacking with limited dynamic range, slow autofocus, hue shift and corner softness.

DxOMark also points out the limited fine details and dynamic range. The absence of a true telephoto camera also results in low zoom score. Low light photography is yet another area where the Note 8 Pro failed to impress the reviewers.

On the video side, autofocus tracking was found lacking and there was visible noise in all shooting conditions alongside limited dynamic range and an orange tint in indoor footage.
